If you were a fan of ‘The Matrix’ trilogy, like myself, then you should definitely watch this video of Joe Pantoliano discussing the downfall of the Matrix franchise.
Pantoliano, who played Cypher in the first Matrix movie, says the first film “blew our minds,” but by the time the last two came around, the movie industry was so saturated with kung-fu stunts, that we were all sick of the smoke and mirrors. He also says that the Wachowski brothers, the directors of the Matrix, were literally copying themselves.
While I tend to agree with him, it didn’t help that the last two films were literally saturated with symbolization and obscurity, not to mention that every character would speak in riddle. I do agree when he says that the first film blew our minds, and that it couldn’t do it twice. The first film is always better than the sequel(s), no matter what movie franchise you’re talking about.
